Every year, the UUA chooses a “Common Read”: a book that UUs across North America can read and discuss together. This year’s book is Social Change Now: A Guide for Reflection and Connection by Deepa Iyer, along with its picture book companion, We Are the Builders. Both of these books describe what Iyer has dubbed the “Social Change Ecosystem”, and is designed to help you find your role in social change movements. These books are designed not just to be read, but to help you reflect on your own strengths and interests to determine what role best suits you, and then help you get started in that work.

We plan to lead some discussions and activities as part of the UU Common Read later this year. Please let us know here if you would like to order any books and what sort of programming you would be interested in around this topic. We want to offer what will best serve our congregation. We also want this program to be accessible to all—the ability to buy a book will not be a barrier.
