Join us for a 10-week class introducing the 24 move Tai chi chuan form with associated breathing, stretching, and strength exercises. Taichi has been shown to help with balance, leg strength, mindfulness, coordinated motion, relaxation, and breathing. The short form is more accessible and practical for the cultivation of good health than the more traditional, longer forms.
The "Peking" Form was developed in 1959 at the behest of the Chinese government - concerned with the health of its citizens and also fearing the loss of a national resource as martial arts masters were emigrating from China. A group of Tai chi masters created the 24 move form that distilled the essence of the longer 108 Yang tai chi form. In this 10- week course we will cover the 24-move Peking Form, Tai chi stretching, Tai chi stance practice, and Tai chi breathing exercises (chi kung). The goal of the course is to give students a template for a daily practice that will improve their health, vitality, and outlook.
The class will take place on Wednesdays at 6pm and Saturdays at 12pm (participants can attend either day or both, but are not required to attend both). Class will be outside in the garden, so dress accordingly in comfortable clothes and flat shoes. If the weather is bad, class will move indoors. Some Saturday classes will need to take place on zoom. We will take a break for the July 4th holiday.
