"The Mission of the First Church Archives (The Archives) is to identify, preserve, process and provide access to the wealth of materials that have been passed down to the current congregation since 1629 and to assure the continued documentation of the “oldest continually operating Congregational Society in North America”. The Archives is also the inheritor and caretaker of historic records once belonging to some of the now-defunct branches with which the First Church was formerly connected.

The archives of the First Church reflect Colonial and Early American church history, from the affects of politics and social change on American religious organizations to the institutional culture of churches.  As such it can be considered to include materials of national significance. The Archives, through the administrative process of records management, is also currently retaining contemporary information-rich permanent electronic and paper documents."
